The African Union has unveiled an ambitious new trade initiative that promises to revolutionize economic cooperation across the continent. The Continental Trade Enhancement Program (CTEP) aims to reduce trade barriers, standardize regulations, and create new opportunities for businesses across Africa.
"This initiative represents a new chapter in African economic integration," said AU Commission Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat during the launch ceremony in Addis Ababa. "We are building bridges, not walls, between our nations."
The program includes:
- Streamlined customs procedures across borders
- Digital trade documentation systems
- Support for small and medium enterprises
- Infrastructure development funding
Early supporters include Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, and Ghana, with more countries expected to join in the coming months. The initiative is expected to increase intra-African trade by 25% over the next five years.
